South Korea: By 2027, disposable cups and plastic straws will completely disappear

The Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Resources, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and other 10 departments jointly formulated the "recycling basic plan" and reported it at the State Council on the 4th. The government will promote plans for disposable cups and plastic straws to completely disappear by 2027.

 

     In order to promote the efficient use of resources, the suppression of waste generation and the recycling of resources, the basic plan is a national strategic measure based on 10 years (2018-2027). By 2027, the Korean government's goal is to: Compared with the gross domestic product (GDP), the amount of waste generated will be reduced by 20%, and the current recycling rate of 70% will be increased to 82%.

 

     In addition, through market research, South Korea will gradually ban the use of disposable cups, plastic straws, etc., promote repeated use of products to replace them, and will restrict double packaging by law to limit unnecessary overpacking.
