A new report, shown by the National Academy of Sciences in Bioengineering and Medicine, shows that automation is just beginning, and that the future impact of automation on employment is far from enough.
The author believes that to understand how automation can change our workplace, we need to better track the way technology is changed. Simply put, if we are following the method we are measuring now, then we are collecting the wrong information. For example, it states that we do not have a fixed source of information about part-time workers and other types of temporary workers. We also don't have any information about computer technology investments, either at the company level or in any profession.
What is also lacking is long-term information, including changes in the skills of specific positions, and how education practices can effectively prepare people for work. This information gap undermines our ability to respond to technological change and its impact on employment.
This is a huge alarm. Governments and businesses around the world have proved that slowly changing jobs are often hidden in the slogan of “employment and economic growth”, which sounds like taking care of everything. This reminds us all that we are far from knowing the future.
